Computer and Internet Requirements
Working from home is also considered a business. You have to invest on a computer or a laptop and internet connection. If you are just starting, basic computer specs would be okay. The only time you may need to upgrade is when you see that the current specifications no longer meet your “business” requirements. Just so you would have an idea of what I would consider a basic specs for a general virtual assistant position is, below is a screen shot of my current laptop. This is the one I use for work as well as some video editing for my vlog.

For those who are asking if they can use their mobile phones to work, my answer would be NO. Cellphones have very limited functions. There may be jobs that will allow you to use your phone but you still have to have a working computer.
For internet speed, you can start with the very basic which I believe right now, minimum speed would be 2MBPS. Just like your computer, you can upgrade if you feel that it doesn’t meet your client’s requirements.
As for the work station, although it is very tempting to stay in bed on your jammies, it is important to make sure that you are still in “work mode” when on duty. That being said, you need to make sure that you have a separate area for work. This will also help you put your mindset to work and separate work and home.
