Prepare family, work station and set proper expectation.
As part of your preparation, you have to make sure that you have a work-friendly environment. A lot of times, family and friends tend to think that since you work from home, it is okay to come visit anytime they please. This is not right. Even if you work in your kitchen table or your couch, you have to separate work and home while on duty. Distraction is the enemy of productivity. Once you start working with clients, you have to set proper expectation with the family. Talk to the kids and make sure they are aware that there will be times that you won’t be available to attend to their needs. Same thing goes for family and friends. You have to let them know that even though you work from home, visitation needs to be scheduled.
I have 5 dogs and even them went through some training so that they will stay calm and quiet when you are working, most especially if you talk over the phone most part of your work hours.
All set with your work station, family and friends?
